🌟 OCTOBER THEME: Lament 🌟
🌟Worship Service🌟
🌟Sunday, October 19, 10:30 a.m.🌟
This month we are exploring Lament, the sacred practice of naming our pain before God. Too many of us have been conditioned to think that prayer should only be about praise or gratitude. Yet Scripture reminds us that honest faith includes every emotion. The Bible does not hide from grief, anger, or protest. It welcomes them as part of our relationship with God.
Psalm 137 is one of the most haunting laments in Scripture. It gives voice to a people in exile who have lost their home, their sense of safety, and the world they once knew. Sitting by the rivers of Babylon, they ask, “How can we sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land?” Their cry is not just ancient. It echoes in our own time.
Many today are feeling a similar kind of disorientation as we watch democratic ideals and personal freedoms, especially for the most vulnerable, being questioned or jeopardized. Like the psalmist, we grieve what has been lost, and we struggle to find our song in a world that feels increasingly foreign to our deepest values.
Lament invites us to bring that pain before God, to name it honestly, and to trust that out of our collective sorrow, new possibilities for justice and hope can still emerge.
Join us this Sunday, October 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Other Lands, as we wrestle together with one of the most challenging and courageous psalms in the Bible, Psalm 137. Our special music will be Matthew Beach singing "Blessings" by Laura Story.
