Dear Beloved Community,
Holy C-H-A-N-G-E
I chose the theme An Ever-Changing God because the idea of a never-changing God is so often used as a weapon—to shut down questions, resist new understandings, and dismiss movements toward justice. “God never changes” becomes a way to cling to outdated interpretations or harmful traditions, as if faithfulness means standing still. But Scripture tells a different story: of a God who responds, adapts, and moves with creation. An ever-changing God is not fickle, but deeply relational—willing to shift in response to love, need, and the cries of the oppressed.
When we hear the word “change,” many of us tense up. It can feel disruptive, unsettling, even threatening. But throughout Scripture, change is often the very thing God uses to bring healing, liberation, and new life. The Daughters of Zelophehad remind us that when we step into holy change, we join God’s work of reshaping the world. Over the coming weeks, I’ll be walking us through six spiritual movements wrapped up in the word C-H-A-N-G-E—each one a practice that opens us to transformation.
These steps speak to two different audiences. For those at the margins, they offer tools for naming harm, claiming dignity, and taking faithful action. For those with power and privilege, they provide a roadmap for hearing hard truths, entering deep discernment, and embracing a more just way forward. Together, they invite the whole community into God’s renewing work.
C – Choose to Confront: See the harm clearly and refuse to accept it as normal.
H – Herald the Truth: Speak the truth aloud, even when it’s uncomfortable.
A – Actively Listen: Pay deep attention to those most impacted.
N – Nurture Relationship and Discernment: Build trust and seek God’s wisdom together.
G – Go to God: Return again and again to the One whose mercy and grace keeps widening.
E – Embrace the New: Step into God’s unfolding future with courage.
Holy change is never easy—but it is always possible. And when we practice these steps together, we just might find ourselves transformed along the way.
Blessings,
Pastor Brian
