Too often, faith communities have boxed God into rigid masculine imagery that serves to reinforce the patriarchy. But the Bible is bursting with hints that the Divine canāt be contained by any one genderāor any binary at all! Together, weāll peel back layers of tradition and rediscover a God whose love holds every body, story, and identity.Ā

We will dive into the surprising, beautiful, and sometimes wild images of God found in Scriptureāsome mothering, some fathering, and some way beyond any gender binary we might create! As we celebrate this Independence Day, may we remember that it is holy work to honor the ideals this country was founded onāfreedom, equality, and justice for allāwhile also telling the truth about how far we have fallen short. To love a nation is not to ignore its flaws but to hold it accountable to its highest promises. May our celebrations today be both joyful and honest, rooted in a hope that we can still become the people we dream to be. šŗšøāØ
Why Godās Gender Reveal?
I chose this monthās themeāGodās Gender Reveal: Reclaiming the Bibleās Gender Diversityābecause, if Iām honest, my heart aches watching how transgender and non-binary people are under constant attack right now, often by those claiming to speak for God. Too many times Iāve heard people misuse a handful of verses, stripped from their context, to justify cruelty in the name of āGodās law.ā But the deeper I go into Scripture, the more convinced I am that the Bible tells a different storyāone that is bigger, wilder, and far more liberating than weāve been taught to believe.
When we set aside the proof texts and actually dwell in the richness of the text, we find a sacred witness to a God who refuses to be pinned down by our categories. We find mothers and fathers, women warriors and eunuchs blessed and embraced, people renamed and reborn, and a Divine Presence described with images that cross and confound every human boundary. Scripture is not a cage; it is a doorway to freedom.
So this month, we reclaim whatās been ours all along: a faith that makes space for every gender identity, including Godās own kaleidoscope of names and forms. May we have the courage to see itāand the love to live it out, together. šāØ
